An introduction to the undergraduate major of School of Transportation Engineering

A brief introduction to road bridge and river crossing engineering

Road bridge and river-crossing engineering was founded in 1993 by the school of traffic civil engineering major.

In 1998, in accordance with the requirements of the national adjustment document of university major the university combined the major of industrial and civil architecture and traffic civil engineering to form a major of civil engineering. Since 1999, the major of traffic engineering has been changed to the direction of roads and bridges of the civil engineering. With the increasing investment of national infrastructure in recent years, the demand of related professional personnel is becoming more and more urgent. In 2012, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of road, bridge and river crossing engineering major by taking into account the relevant basic and professional characteristics.

The major is to train senior talents who is needed by the construction of national transportation network, and is capable with the design, construction, maintenance and management of highway, urban road, airport engineering, bridge, tunnel and river crossing project.

There are 18 full-time teachers, including 6 professors, 8 associate professors, 2 lecturers, 2 teaching assistants, 12 Ph. D. and 6 masters degrees holders. There are many people who are the first level of Talents Project of Liaoning Province, advanced workers of national transportation system, outstanding talent support program of Department of Education of Liaoning,and leading talents of Shenyang.12 people are part-time in Liaoning Academic Institutions.

The main courses of the major are: theoretical mechanics, material mechanics, structural mechanics, road engineering materials, structural design principles, engineering surveying, engineering geology, foundation engineering, roadbed and pavement engineering, bridge engineering, road survey and design, road engineering construction technology, bridge engineering construction technology, urban roads, inspection and maintenance technology of highway engineering, economic analysis and evaluation of engineering and technology, construction organization and construction project management.

Graduates are competent in the design, construction, management, consulting, supervision and scientific research of those works related to road, bridge and river crossing projects, and also they can engaged in railway, subway and others related design, construction. Graduates of this major can apply for a master's degree in road and railway engineering, bridge and tunnel engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, disaster prevention and mitigation engineering and protection engineering.

Traffic engineering (undergraduate, four years)

Traffic engineering trains applied advanced engineering and technical first linetalents, who are comprehensive, highly capable, high-quality and innovative, to meet the needs of social and economic development. After graduation, students can work in enterprises and institutions such as road transportation system, traffic planning department, traffic management and control department, road and bridge engineering construction and maintenance.

The main courses are: traffic engineering, traffic research, mechanical design, structural mechanics, soil mechanics and basic engineering, traffic investigation and analysis,operation and management of urban rail transit, road engineering, road construction equipment, transportation planning, traffic design, bridge engineering, professional foreign language, construction technology of road and bridge, construction and principle of automobile, traffic simulation technology, urban road, traffic system analysis, construction organization and budget estimate.

Students master the basic theory and knowledge of traffic engineering, possess the initial ability of design, research, development, construction and management of traffic engineering projects through system learning and basic training. They master the construction technology, engineering testing and testing of the basic methods involved in the traffic engineering. They understand the relevant laws, regulations and standards of this profession, and they know the development of this major. Students master the basic methods of document retrieval and data searching, they has certain ability of scientific research and practical working and more systematic ability of computer aided design and analysis.

In 2016, the traffic engineering major of our university began to recruit students for undergraduate courses. At present, 57 students are enrolled in the university. Traffic engineering students in 2016 achieved 46.4% pass rate in CET4. Students participate in all kinds of discipline competitions at all levels actively, 4 people won the award at the school level and higher level, of which, they won the third prize in the second National Intelligent Transportation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and 3 students published scientific papers.

Traffic engineering has a strong faculty, currently, there are 6 full-time teachers, of which 66.7% of teachers are in senior titles, 66.7% of teachers are with doctorates. The team members are prime and average age of 39.5 years old, with rich scientific research experience and teaching experience. They have presided over and participated in more than 10 various types of projects at all levels, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Project of Education Department of Liaoning Province, the provincial government project, the Municipal Science and Technology Alliance project and the Municipal Science and Technology Association project. Traffic engineering laboratory, founded in March 2017, has a total investment of over 400 yuan. The laboratory is a practical operating platform for scientific research and teaching in the field of transportation planning and management, which is closely integrated with the practice of modern intelligent urban traffic management system engineering. On the one hand, it provides an auxiliary teaching platform for undergraduates and master degree students to master the engineering knowledge of intelligent transportation system. On the other hand, it provides an operational platform for traffic flow analysis and traffic control for scientific researchers.

Surveying and mapping engineering (undergraduate, four years)

This major mainly cultivates applied talents with the accomplishment of humanities and social sciences, who can master natural science, building engineering foundation, professional knowledge of surveying and mapping geographic information engineering. They need to be able to use modern tools to analyze, study, and map geographic information engineering problems,They should have the ability to design, implement and manage the comprehensive surveying and mapping geographic information engineering, to abide by the professional ethics standard of the project, to be able to bear the social responsibility, as well as the team awareness and communication skills, international vision, autonomous learning and ability to adapt to development. after graduation they can be able to engage in technology and management in construction, transportation, surveying and mapping, geographic information and other industries.

Major subjects of this study are Advanced Mathematics, College Physics, Linear Algebra, probability and Statistics, descriptive Geometry and Engineering Graphics, Applied foundation of BIM, Computer Languages, data structure, computer Graphics, Engineering Mechanics, Introduction to Civil Engineering, Basic surveying and mapping, digitized mapping, Basic measurement adjustment, geodetic surveying, GNSS Principle and Application of Satellite Positioning, Engineering surveying, deformation measurement, photogrammetry, Principle and Application of remote Sensing, interpretation of remote Sensing Image, Principle of Geographic Information system, GIS engineering technology, Real estate mapping, Surveying and mapping project management etc.

Students acquire basic training in mapping geographic information engineers through system learning and practical training (one quarter of the total course time in practice), and they can engage in work of construction engineering, railway, road and urban road engineering, bridge engineering, water conservancy projects, national defense projects, tunnel engineering, mining resources survey and development, land resources survey and management, mapping and other aspects of real estate mapping geographic information.

Since 2003, the major of Surveying and Mapping Engineering has enrolled undergraduate students. In 2011, it became the authorized site for master's degree in civil engineering measurement. In 2014, it successfully held the Mapping Star Contest of Liaoning. In 2015, the surveying and mapping engineering major was approved as a pilot project for the transformation and development of ordinary higher education institutions in Liaoning Province. In 2017, it applied for the first-level authorization of the Master of Science in Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology (currently under review by the Ministry of Education). At present, the Surveying and Mapping Engineering major is applying for the "Engineering Education Certification" of the Washington Agreement, after which the graduates' qualifications will be recognized among the member states.

Surveying and mapping major has a strong team of teachers, the majority of full-time teachers graduated from Wuhan University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northeast University, Hehai University and other schools, most of them have doctorates, registered surveyors, and many double-qualified teachers. Surveying and mapping major is rich in teaching resources, and equipment of more than 10 million yuan including drone, photogrammetric workstation, measuring robot, three-dimensional laser scanner, as well as engineering measurement laboratories, photogrammetry and remote sensing laboratories, geographic information laboratories and a number of internship training base built with enterprises The quality of student employment is very high, 75% of the students are employed in the top 500 state-owned large-scale state-owned enterprises, design institutes, surveying and mapping units and other units, about 15%of students choose to postgraduate study and go abroad.

Logistics engineering (undergraduate, four years)

Logistics engineering major mainly trains high quality engineering technical talents of modern logistics system who meet the needs of socialist modernization, develop in all aspects. Students master the related basic theory and knowledge of management science and engineering and logistics engineering. Students receive basic training in planning and design of logistics engineering project, design and application of logistics equipment, and have the ability to plan and design logistics system, manage and use logistics equipment, develop logistics information system, etc. They possess as well as the team awareness and communication skills, international vision, autonomous learning and ability to adapt to development. after graduation they can be able to engage in technology and management in logistics, construction, transportation.

Students master the basic theory and skills in the field of logistics engineering through systematic learning and practical training. They have capabilities of the application and management of logistics engineering equipment, and basic capabilities of planning, analysis, organization, operation and management in logistics engineering system. They can engage in the design and development of equipment, such as industrial and commercial enterprises, social logistics of transport enterprises, planning and management of production logistics and logistics warehousing and packaging.

Major subjects of this study are Advanced Mathematics, College Physics, Linear Algebra, probability and Statistics, descriptive Geometry and Engineering Graphics, Computer Languages, operations research, system engineering, management and control of logistics cost, basic mechanical design, procurement management and inventory control, transportation economics, planning and design of logistics center, control engineering foundation, logistics information system, modern logistics simulation technology, planning and control of production, planning of transportation system, logistics equipment, planning and design of logistics system, management of logistics and supply chain, international logistics engineering, application of logistics design software.

The major of logistics engineering in Shenyang Jianzhu University was set in the autumn of 2002, and began to enroll new students from 2003. Logistics engineering’s academic system is for 4 years, after graduating from it students awarded a bachelor of engineering degree. At present, there are 8 teachers in this profession, of whom 75% have doctoral degrees and 50% have senior professional titles. This is a three-dimensional warehouse laboratory, modern logistics technology laboratory, two professional laboratories, laboratory equipment worth nearly 1.5 million in the major of logistics engineering. The quality of employment of students is very high, 75% of them are employed in large state-owned enterprises, foreign enterprises and other units, about 25%of students choose to postgraduate study.
